Since there is no contact for Mini Tyke, players will only require some basic hockey equipment: hockey helmets with facemask, mouth guard, shoulder pads, gloves, athletic support and cup, and elbow pads. A lacrosse stick and running shoes are also required. Tyke, Pee Wee, Novice, Bantam and Midget divisions require the same equipment along with lacrosse arm pads and kidney and back protectors. Field/Box lacrosse gloves offer excellent protection and flexibility. Short cuff hockey gloves can be used, but they don’t offer the same grip or flexibility. Boy’s/Men’s Field lacrosse equipment requirements are somewhat similar to box lacrosse. Girl’s/Women’s field lacrosse is a non contact game so equipment is minimal. A mouth guard and stick are all that are required to play.

2. Where can I buy lacrosse equipment?

Sport Stores will generally carry lacrosse equipment. Some sport stores carry used lacrosse equipment as well. Some lacrosse associations also run equipment rental programs. Most associations provide the equipment necessary for goal tenders.

Declaration Information & Fee Notice

In order to give all players interested in playing on an ‘A’ level lacrosse team a good look, and in an effort to streamline the tryout process, Rocky View Lacrosse will hold initial try-outs for those athletes wishing to tryout for an ‘A’ level team.

To cover the additional floor rental, a non-refundable fee of $25 to try-out for ‘A’ teams for Novice, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget will be assessed.

Initial try-outs will take place in March 2012. Players will be notified of their floor times, dates and locations before the end of February 2012.

Any player wishing to try-out for an ‘A’ team must complete a declaration form and pay the $25 non-refundable fee at the time of registration (either on line by credit/debit card or with a separate cheque made out to Rocky View Lacrosse). A player will not be allowed to play on an ‘A’ team unless the tryout fee has been paid.

Any players not available for the try-out dates may be excused with a valid reason. Any player missing any of the tryout dates must notify the associaiton via email at coach@rockyviewlacrosse.com and provide a valid reason.

Players will go directly into scrimmages and are expected to show up fully equipped and ready to play a scrimmage lacrosse game. Please note that these try-outs are preliminary; cuts will be made after the initial sessions and further evaluations of the smaller groups in each division will continue with team selections finalized by mid-to-end of March 2012.

Cheques or money orders are to be made out to Rocky View Lacrosse Association or RVLA. A separate cheque is required for each player registering if the fee has not been paid on line by credit card or debit. No post-dated cheques will be accepted.

All “A” players must make lacrosse their priority, be committed to their teams and attend at least 85% of practices and games.

Congratulation to the 2011 Novice RV2 Rocky View Rage for capturing the 2011 City Championship!

RV2 finished a fantastic regular season 11-1-0 (W-L-T) and went on to win the City Championship by overcoming a game one loss to finish the best-of-3 series 3-game-to-2 over the cross-town rival SaberCats.

Rocky View Lacrosse Drop-in Clinic

Prior to the start of the 2012 Development Camp we invite your son/daughter to join us for a few casual drop-in times January 8, 15 and 22. This is a great opportunity to try out the sport or get the rust off your stick prior to the camp.

Drop-in Details:

Mini-Tyke, Tyke and Novice (or any new player to the sport):

Winter Blast is a four on four, one day tournament geared at bringing together great competitors from acrossSouthern Alberta to get the sticks active over the Christmas Break. The tournament will take place at the National Sport Development (NSD) Facility in the heart ofCalgary (7475 Flint Road SE,Calgary,AB). Teams will consist of six players and one goalie. Each team is guaranteed three games and each division will have a championship game. PeeWees will be scheduled to play in the morning, Bantams in the mid-afternoon and Midgets in the evening. Games will consist of 25 minute run-clock time.

Coaches and other Bench Personnel:

In an effort to protect our athletes, the Rocky View Lacrosse Association, is now utilizing local police resources to provide screening our coaching staff and other bench personnel, such as trainers and managers.

Each season ALL bench personnel with-in the Rocky View Lacrosse Association must provide a current (completed with-in the prior 4 months) “Vulnerable Record Check” which can be obtained at your home disctrict RCMP station.

Processing takes aproximately 7-10 days, but has taken upwards of 2-months so please start the process in advance of the season. Once completed please proved an original copy by mail or in person at a pre-arranged time.
