Rules and Regulations

Rules and regulations for the CDLA are more specific rules that apply to the management and administration of lacrosse in Calgary.  Rules and regulations provide specific guidance on such items as:

1. Use of underaged players
2. Affiliate players
3. Player transfers
4. Player suspensions

In some cases, the CDLA has modified Canadian Lacrosse Association rules to make them more ’severe’ or specific.  For example, in 2008, the CDLA introduced the ‘repeat offender’ rule.  This rule is as follows:

Coaching Certification Programs (NCCP Programs) for 2010

There are some new procedures in place for all coaches taking coach certification courses in 2010. Please review the following information before you register for a course.

** New for 2010 ** Coaching Certification Course Registration Procedures

• Email linda@sportzsoft.com with:

1. your name
2. course date and location
3. club you are with

• You will be sent a course ‘code’ and further instructions
• You must then login to the Canadian Lacrosse Association NCCP website system
• Complete the ‘pre-clinic’ assessment (this can take between 1-2 hours)
• Once your pre-clinic assessment has been completed, you must register for the course via the CLA website
• Attend the required course.
• Complete your coach’s workbook online through the CLA website.

The Alberta Lacrosse Association is looking to improve the training of lacrosse coaches in the province. The True Sport Mentorship Seminar is aimed at improving the training of coaches via an interactive clinic with high level coach mentors. This is aimed at Pee Wee and above Box Lacrosse coaches in the Province of Alberta.

The Head Coach of each team is required to fill in the Coaching Staff Registration, sign and ensure that the appropriate certification level(s) as outlined in the NCCP (see page 2 of form) are met by his/her coaching staff in order to coach a lacrosse team registered with Rockyview Lacrosse Association.

Coaches or other Bench Personel:

In an effort to protect our athletes, the Rockyview Lacrosse Association, is now utilizing local police resources to provide screening of coaching staff and other bench personel, such as trainers and managers.

ALL bench personel with-in the Rockyview Lacrosse Association must provide a “Vulnerable Record Check” which can be obtained free of charge at you local law enforcement agency.

Download Training Guide

The CLA and ALA have put together the Online Coaching program. This program will help coaches continue with their training so they can continue to become better coaches.

Here are some of the program benefits for coaches:

• Coaching clinic schedules in respective province;
• Registration for upcoming coaching clinics;
• Coach evaluation materials;
• Information on the NCCP and how it works;
• Coach profile and transcript;
• Additional tools and resources that can be used in everyday coaching (i.e. drill manual, practice & seasonal plans, etc);
• A cost efficient program to stay up to date on their NCCP education;

This is an online training program and has been designed in a way to allow for the coach to easily navigate through the system in a progressive manner. Use the following resources to work through the program:

As per ALA Regulations, all coaches and officials must complete the “Respect in Sport” program.

This course takes approximately 3 hours and can be completed in sections, so the coach or official can log in and out at their convenience. The program remembers the last section completed.

As per the ALA regulations, this must be completed by July 1st.

Here are the general access instructions for all users – Registration Instructions:

• Select the language of your choice.
• In the New Registration box on the right, choose the appropriate region you are active in from the drop-down selection box labeled “Select from these Regions.”
• You will then be requested “Choose your Club” from a secondary drop down selection list which may appear.
• Click Register Now.
• On the next page you will be prompted to accept the Respect in Sport Privacy Policy.
• Acceptance of the policy is required to continue with registration.
• Next, complete the registration fields. Any field with a red exclamation mark is mandatory and must be completed. You will be requested to enter a username and password. These entries may be anything you desire, but may not contain certain special characters or spaces.
• Respect Group recommends using an email address as a username.
• Once all mandatory fields have been completed, click Submit. You will be taken directly into the program. Only the first module will be accessible. Subsequent modules will unlock as the previous module is completed.
